"We concluded-I concluded-that genocide has been committed in Darfur and that the government of Sudan and the Janjaweed bear responsibility- and the genocide may still be occurring."
                                                                      -Collin Powell, Secretary of State,
                                                                                        September 2004

Later that same year the U.S, Canada, and the Eurpoean Union funded a mission by the African Union to send 6,000 troops to Darfur, yet the force was ill-equipped and were not very affective.  Neverthless, until recently the UN has not been  very affective.  In 2007 they joined with the AU(African Union) in order to send the largest peacekeeping force in history, to Sudan.  They plan to send 26,000 troops.  Only 60% of the force has been sent; however, many argue that this force will be to small in such a large area as Darfur.  Others argue that the force will not be that affective until a peace agreement is made.

Besides the contribution by the UN and the European and African Unions, Canada, and the U.S, the ICC(International Criminal Court) has accused the Sudanese President of committing war crimes.  In the video below you will here about said accusation.
